31 flavors of McLaren Vale

John took us on a guided tour of McClaren Vale…one of Australia’s renowned wine regions not too far away on the Fleurieu Peninsula.  It’s filled with wineries (76 cellar doors), produce shops, olive groves, galleries all set in the rolling hills that are still minutes away from the coast.

We visited a number of wineries including Tintara (est. 1861), Maxwell’s (known for their mead), Chapel Hill, d’Arenberg (beautiful views), and Pirramimma (known for reds).  In between, we had samples at the Olive Train (olives, almonds, spreads, sauces and honey), the Olive Grove (olives and olive oils), and a chocolate factory.

There was even time to find two geocaches in the region and have a quick view of the coast before heading home to put together dinner including some of our purchases!
