Hartwell Cruisin’

Last week, we took a quick mini-road trip up to Hart County in Georgia. The Savannah River was dammed, forming Lake Hartwell, which is part of the border between South Carolina and Georgia. The dam was completed in 1963 by the US Army Corps of Engineers for flood control and to provide hyroelectric energy.

We were lucky enough to have an afternoon with good wind and were able to get out on the sailboat. Captain Gary gave us detailed instructions on the ins an outs of his vessel and then we shoved off. Each of us took turns on the tiller as we made our way to SC and back. A special thanks to our wonderful hosts Ida and Gary Cobb! We had a great time visiting, eating and swapping stories.
