Bondi

Today was the day I met Pete for the second time.  The first time had been 22 years ago, as exchange students in Japan.  Though we were just teens then, I guess we were pretty good judges of character, since the four of us (Donny and Pete’s partner Kate included) had a wonderful day exploring, walking, chatting and sharing like good friends should.  The annual Sculpture by the Sea was going on, providing even more to look at along our walk.  Starting from the famous Bondi Beach (super crowded and hopping after a few days of bad weather) we passed the Bondi Icebergs Club, known for their year-round swimming activities.  Over Mackenzie’s point we came to Tamarama Beach, a smaller beach with a reputation among the glamorous.  The views from the point were gorgeous.

Next came Bronte Beach and Waverley Cemetary (nice views from here as well!), where some famous folks lie at rest.  Clovelly Beach was broad and sandy, while Gordon’s Bay had an underwater Marine Park mapped out for lucky shore-entry divers.  Our walk finally concluded at Coogee, and we rewarded ourselves with several beers out on the rooftop bar.  The seafood was mighty tasty as well. We enjoyed good conversation and views as the bar got more and more crowded.  Donny made a fast friend when we switched tables to get out of the wind.  His name was Baz, and, having gotten lucky on the horses that day, this genial fellow decided to buy us several more rounds of drinks.  We finally broke away from the fun, and said our goodbyes to Pete and Kate, who hopefully we will see again before another 20 years pass.  Maybe sometime soon in Japan??
