Hermanus

We set off in the morning with the Kiwi girls, Leanne and sisters Nicola and Lee-Anne.  After a single wrong turn getting out of Cape Town, and a few minutes for Donny to get used to left-hand-drive and the other side of the road, it was smooth sailing to Hermanus.  We stopped for rooibos tea at Betty’s Bay before checking into Hermanus Backpackers’ dorm for the night.  We spent the afternoon participating in some of the best land-based whale watching in the world, and walking along the Cliff Path.  The views were spectacular, and there was lots of Southern Right Whale action: spouting, breaching, fin slapping, tail shows, etc.  It was hard to know which way to look!  It seemed like we stopped every few feet for a whole new perspective.  Oysters and sushi made a good snack at the smoky dive bar, the Gecko out on the point away from town.

Back at the backpackers we had a braai.  The chicken wrapped in bacon was divine, and served with potatoes, salad and garlic bread.  The backyard was pretty crowded, so we washed up our plates had a few games of pool and made it an early night.
