When you click on View Larger Map, a new window will open, where you can explore the map in more detail from within Google Maps. There, there is also an option to view the map in Google Earth. This requires you to have Google Earth on your computer, but it allows you to zoom in and see satellite views of many places right down to individual buildings and landmarks.

On our first extended trip, 2008-2009, we stuck mostly to the Southern Hemisphere. We set off on the bus from Providence, RI to New York for our first flight to Cape Town, South Africa. From there, we ended up signing on to an overland safari that began in Zambia and ended back in Cape Town. Our next destination was Australia, flying into Perth, and traveling by plane, car, train and campervan, covering a lot of ground before we moved on to New Zealand. Most of our time there was camping in a basic but comfortable campervan. Our flight from Auckland to Buenos Aires was a LONG one, and with all of the time changes we arrived earlier than we’d left! We explored Argentina and Chile before heading to Venezuela for a the holidays. After a couple of months, we traveled through Peru. Costa Rica was a bonus layover on the way back to New York.
Thank you for allowing me to be along for a small part of the ride. Greta made the suggestion and I jumped at the chance. I so admire your “bravery” of going to these amazing and exotic destinations.
Thanks Sherry! Glad you’re enjoying the blog. It’s so nice when we get feedback, so thanks for the kind words! We’ve got a couple more Scotland posts to catch up on, so stay tuned!
Woww, you’ve been to so many places! How many countries exactly that you have visited?
Hey Bama, GREAT question! I just updated the Stats page with “Countries Visited” for each trip. We visited 13 on the first trip and 14 on the second. We’ll have to brainstorm to get a total for all of our travels!
