Every time we have the opportunity to travel through the southwestern part of the US, we try and make the most of our visit, even if we’re just passing through. It’s one of our favorite parts of the country, and we’ve been lucky enough to spend a fair amount of time here over the years. The landscapes are beautiful and varied: desert, plains, mountains, rivers, red rock, and unique, natural wonders like Arches and Carlsbad Caverns National Parks and the Grand Canyon!
On previous visits we’ve unraveled the mystery of The Thing (a roadside attraction on I-10 in Arizona, with bright, yellow billboards advertising its charms all the way from California to Texas). We’ve climbed Mt. Lemmon (the highest point in the Santa Catalina mountains) outside Tucson from the 4-wheel-drive-only backside of the mountain and thoroughly explored the Pima Air and Space Museum (the world’s largest privately funded aerospace museum).
Today’s drive was quicker than we would have liked it to be, but the views, as always, were fantastic, and we passed the time reminiscing about all the good memories we have.

My favorite area is along the Colorado River near Lake Havasu City….gorgeous, especially on those 110 degree F. days.
I thought of you yesterday when we saw signs for Havasu! It was pretty toasty yesterday, but only 90s I think. Too bad we didn’t have time to stop! Are you around there these days?
Wow, that looks spectacular. Wish I could get there one day!!
