At TurtlesTravel, accessible from [https://turtlestravel.com], data privacy is paramount to us. This site was created and is managed by Heather Tamara Loeber and Donny Loeber. We want each member of our community and all visitors to rest assured that our site is a safe space and compliant with data protection regulations, including Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable United States privacy laws.

If you have questions or require more information about our Privacy Policy, please contact us by email at turtlestravel@gmail.com.

1. Information We Collect

We do not actively collect personal data for commercial sale. The personal information we handle falls into two categories:

A. Information You Voluntarily Provide

  • Comments: When you leave a comment on our site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as your IP address and browser user agent string to assist in spam detection.
  • Gravatar Integration: An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you use it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy. Upon approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
  • Contact Forms: Any information submitted via our contact forms is used strictly for customer service purposes (such as replying to inquiries). We do not use contact form submissions for marketing purposes, nor do we sell or share this data.
  • Email List: If you subscribe to our email updates, your email address is used solely to notify you when new posts or travel tips are published. We will never share or sell your email address to third parties.

B. Automatically Collected Data & Analytics

  • Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics to monitor website traffic and aggregate visitor metrics. Google Analytics processes data such as device type, browser information, referring pages, and approximate location. For details on Google’s privacy practices, visit the Google Analytics Privacy Policy. You can opt out of being tracked by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

2. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We use cookies to enhance your site experience and gather aggregate traffic metrics:

  • Comment Cookies: If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These exist for your convenience so you do not have to re-fill your details for future comments. These cookies persist for one year.
  • Account & Login Cookies: If you log in to an account on this site, we set a temporary cookie to test if your browser accepts cookies (discarded when you close your browser). Login cookies persist for two days, and screen option cookies last for a year. Selecting “Remember Me” keeps your login active for two weeks.
  • Embedded Content: Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, or maps). Embedded content from third-party websites behaves exactly as if you visited the external website directly. These sites may collect data about you, use cookies, or track your interactions.

You can disable cookies entirely through your browser settings (e.g., Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox).

3. Third-Party Data Processing & Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personally identifiable information to outside parties. We only share data with trusted third-party service providers necessary to operate the site:

  • Spam Prevention: Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service, Akismet Anti-Spam (Automattic Inc.). You can review the Akismet Terms of Service.
  • Website Hosting & Infrastructure: Managed through our secure web hosting infrastructure.

4. Data Retention

  • Comments: If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically.
  • User Accounts: For users that register on our website (if any), we store the personal information provided in their user profile. All registered users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except username changes). Website administrators can also view and edit that data.

5. Your Rights Over Your Data

Depending on your jurisdiction (including under the GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and US State Privacy Laws), you hold specific rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access & Portability: You can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you provided to us.
  • Erasure / Deletion: You can request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This excludes data we are required to retain for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
  • Correction: You may request corrections to inaccurate personal data.
  • Non-Discrimination: We will never discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

To make a data request, please email turtlestravel@gmail.com.

6. Data Protection & Security Breaches

We maintain technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, loss, or alteration. In the event of a security breach that poses a risk to user data privacy, we will notify affected users and appropriate authorities in accordance with applicable legal requirements as soon as reasonably possible.

7. Children’s Privacy

TurtlesTravel does not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Union). If you believe your child has provided personal information on our site, please contact us at turtlestravel@gmail.com immediately, and we will promptly remove the information from our records.

8. External Links

Our site contains links to external websites. We have no control over and assume no liability for the privacy policies, content, or practices of any third-party websites.

9. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect site modifications or legal changes. Updates will be published directly on this page with a revised “Last Updated” date.
