USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice

It’s been an eventful 2014 so far!  Big things have been happening here at TurtlesTravel, and we wanted to take a moment to share them with you, our loyal readers.Just yesterday, we found out we are among the nominees for top couples travel bloggers as chosen by USA Today 10Best Experts. From here, the contest is all about Reader’s Choice! Voting is now open, and you can vote once per day until then. Remember to only vote once per day, as additional votes will cancel each other out, or so it says in the fine print. The 10 couples with the most votes will be announced on August 6th. It’s very rewarding to be included in a group of very talented travelers, writers and photographers. Some blogs, like The PlanetD, Uncornered Market and Never Ending Voyage, we’ve admired and followed for years. We were happy to find some new couples to check out as well. We’re sure you’ll discover some treasures among the nominees!

Skype’s Around the World in 30 Days

In May, when we returned from our trip to Colombia, we were excited to learn that a photograph we had posted on our Instagram had won Skype’s “Around the World in 30 Days Instagram Challenge.” The photo shows a delicious serving of ceviche that we enjoyed while escaping the noonday heat in Cartagena. The glass it was served in was chock-full of fresh chunks of octopus, onion, cilantro, peppers and corn in a bright, lime-juice marinade. It was accompanied by traditional Saltín Noel crackers.

The prize package included a Surface 2 tablet and some cool Skype swag like a Skype-branded oven mitt and apron. We also had the opportunity to get together with Skype Food Ambassador, Tom Le Mesurier, and Skype Travel Ambassador, Mike Corey, for a Skype group video call. We discussed our two favorite things: travel and food. You can catch a segment of the video chat on SkypeMoments.
